To install Leveller, extract the remainder
of the PKZIP archive into an empty folder
on your computer. Make sure you preserve
the folder hierarchy in the archive; if
you extract numerous files but no
subfolders, the installation won't work.

Run the program LEVSETUP.EXE. This is a
Setup Wizard that automates the installation
of the Leveller demo onto your PC.

To save download time, the MFC and OpenGL system
libraries are not included. They pretty much
come with Windows these days, but if you need
them, they can be obtained separately. The
Setup Wizard uses MFC, so if it doesn't run,
you need to get MFC installed first.

Note: you will need about 1.7 MB
of free disk space to run the installation.
After installation, the folder that you
extracted the archive to can be deleted.

Additional plug-ins are available from
the Leveller product website at
http://www.daylongraphics.com/products/leveller/plugins.htm

When running Leveller for the first time,
you will be asked for the application's
directory. Simply click Browse... and
choose the directory that Leveller was
installed into, and click Select.

FAQ

Q: What versions of Windows does Leveller support?

A: Leveller is known to work with Windows95,
Windows98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000,
   and under VMWare for Linux.

Q: When I run the installer, I get a message
saying something about "missing export in MFC42.DLL"
or "A required DLL, MFC42.DLL, is missing."

A: Your copy of the MFC42.DLL system file is
out of date or not installed. We used to
include MFC, but everyone pretty much has it
now, so there's barely any point these days.
To get the MFC DLL, visit the Microsoft website.

Q: I already installed an earlier demo.
Can I install this new demo in a different
   folder, and run it separately?

A: No; you should remove the folder containing
the old demo before running this installation.
If you don't, and you try to run the old
demo after installing the new one, problems
   may occur.

Q: I'm a registered user of an older version
of Leveller. Will this installation upgrade it?

A: No. This is a demo; it has nothing to do
   with the registered version.

Q: I'm a registered user of Leveller. Will this
   installation overwrite it?

A: Only if you install it into the same folder
that contains your registered copy of Leveller,
which we don't recommend (for obvious reasons).
If you install this demo into its own folder,
you can safely run both the demo and your
   registered version of Leveller separately.
The demo, by default, suggests an installation
   folder called 'Leveller_Demo' to distinguish
   it from the licenced version.

Q: Why are some plug-ins not available?

A: The demo only loads twenty plug-ins. To make
other plug-ins load, move out unneeded .LTF
files from the Leveller plugins folder. You
can see which plug-ins were loaded by using
   the Help, About Plug-ins... command.

Q: What happened to the plug-ins that the previous
   demos included?

A: Some of these plug-ins were very large and
made the download file excessively large,
and/or they were obscure. But you can always
   download a desired plug-in from
   http://www.daylongraphics.com/products/leveller/plugins.htm
