Building Trucks
(PAL Files for PSP)

In Paint Shop Pro, from the File menu, Open the raw file.  You will be prompted for informtion in this box.

4k Raw files are 64x64 pixels and 64k Raw files are 256x256 pixels.  Use the radio buttons to select Single channel (grey scale), leave the header size at zero, use the radio buttons to select Interleaved RGB RGB and Order RGB and finally click OK.  The texture will open into PSP, but it will be black and white.

To add color, you must load the PAL color palette you just converted.  Goto Colors>Load Palette on the menu.

You will be cautioned that the image will be converted to 8 bit indexed color.

Click okay to open the Load Palette box.

Select the PAL file you just created and make sure the radio button indicates Maintain indexes.  Click Open, and your texture should now have color.

You may now edit the texture.

Tip.  It is best to increase the color depth to 16 million colors (24 bit) for editing.  Later, when the texture is finished, you can reduce it back to 256 colors (8 bit).  But sure to set the palette to Optimized Median Cut, and the Reduction method to Nearest color.  Like this.

When you are done, save the texture as a RAW file.  And save the color palette by selecting Colors>Save Palette.

Save as PAL - Jasc palette.

Warning. Do not close your texture until after you have saved the PAL file. Also, it is a good idea to save the texture in JPG or GIF or BMP format for back up purposes.

That's it, you are now ready to convert the PAL back into an ACT file.
