  *** Sidewinder MT ***

This is the second version of my custom Ford concept truck with side-mounted engine(s). The engine layout was inspired by the awesome STP 4x4 turbine Indianapolis 500 car of the late 1960's.

My original SIDEWIINDER was a simpler, low polygon count racing truck with a rear-mounted wing, and painted windows and wheelwells. This one is a full detailed exibition monster truck, complete with driver and cockpit.

The body began as the Ford F150 Crew Cab from 4x4 Evolution. After it was fully fiberglassed, the wheelwells were enlarged to fit the 66 inch diameter tires. The cab was rebuilt into a single seat, left-side-only layout, and the front & rear bumpers removed. Lastly, new custom paint with sponsor decals was applied.

The frame is fully custom, but uses structure design found on Patrick-built frames. A cradle was designed installed on the right side for the tandem Ford V-8 motors, and a full roll-cage welded on the left side for the driver. He is protected from heat, hot fluids and fire by a stainless steel sheetmetal panel, mounted between him and the engines and front radiator. Each engine has it's own aluminum radiator and cooling fan, the second mounted behind the driver, but both motors feed from the single rear-mounted fuel tank.

Power is delivered to the driveshafts through the heavy-duty transmission to two power transfer chain-drives, connected to each other with their own jackshaft. All 16 exhaust pipes exit to the right side of the truck, away from the driver, with the left side pipes routed beneath the engines and between the frame tubes. The driver, a modified version of my scrapyard driver model (new arms, now with elbows!!), sits in a fiberglas bucket racing seat holding a Grant GT racing wheel, with a SUN drag tachometer in clear view.

New wheels and axles were slipped underneath, sprung by DOGGE SUSPENSION long travel nitrogen shocks. Finally, a new WAV sound file of "SIDEWINDER" was created with a text-to-wavfile program.

A "body off" version was included in the POD file. It's the same truck with the fiberglas body removed.
